A Voortrekker wagon drawn by four oxen moving to the right over rocky ground. Beside the wagon,
a man wielding a whip followed by a dog. In the background, trees with mountains behind and clouds
above. Legend: “VOORTREKKEREEUFEES (voortrekker centenary)” and in the exergue: “1938”. Above
the exergue line, signed: “E N (left) R.M.P (right)”. Gold medal stamped: "9c" in the middle.

Gold, silver and bronze medals issued in a blue oblong case lined with white silk and blue velvet marked:
"RMP" on the inside of the lid. Gold medal issued singly in a similar rectangular case. Silver and bronze
(without lug) medals issued in a blue fitted cardboard box. AM2 reports a mintage of 50 sets of three.
AM2 also reports a white medal medal but this was probably the silver medal which was mistaken
because it has no silver marks.
The medallist E. Naylor has reworked the ox wagon design on the 1936 Empire Exhibition medal and
used it for the obverse of this medal.
