Reference: Brian Hern catalogue U43
A 5 mm hole appears in the centre of the coin. It is not certain if the hole was on the original blank before being struck. It is summised that perhaps it may have been a mint experiment for war time coinage for other countries?
THIS 1943 PATTERN HALF PENNY IS THE ONLY ONE KNOWN, AND IS THEREFORE REGARDED AS HISTORICALLY UNIQUE AMONGST COLLECTORS.
