Description:
The advances made in coinage are clearly illustrated in this set. This Celtic coin originated in South West England. This2000-year-old coinis one of the earliest examples of a two sided coin and comes from a time before regal coinage started, and depicts the simple aspects of everyday Celtic life.
In contrast, the Krugerrand is regarded as an excellent example of modern technical development. The skill and workmanship are retained, but the lettering on the coin was improved by numerically controlled machinery to a standard that could never be achieved in the past.
The obverse of this coin depicts the bust of President Paul Kruger, who was president of the ZAR ( the previous province of the Transvaal - now Gauteng ) when gold was discovered on the Witwatersrand in1886.
