 Description

The BIG FIVE have been depicted since 1994. South Africa has an abundance of protected wildlife and nature reserves. In the Natura series, The Leopard was the fifth of the Natura coin series, introduced in 1998 as a unique collection of Africa's Big Five, beautifully depicted in this gold set containing the 1 ounce plus the three fractional coins.

The designs were done by various artists, the common obverse of all four of the Leopard coins, is an artistic impression of the head of a growling Leopard stalking it's prey, designed by A L Sutherland. The reverse of the coins depict a Leopard lazing in a tree on the one ounce, the strength of the Leopard is portrayed on the half ounce coin, a female Leopard with her offspring is featured on the quarter ounce and on the tenth ounce a Leopard is seen busy drinking water.
