Description:
On the R100 (1oz) Natura coin, two adults are shown patrolling the pack's home range. The African Painted Wolves are great roamers and need large territories. These territories vary in size depending on the number of pack members and the nature of the terrain. Due to human encroachment on their natural territory, there are only a few free roaming wild packs in existence which live outside the protection of national parks and reserves.
The mintmark on the reverse of the Natura 1oz coin is a front paw print of a African Painted Wolf. Launched in July 2012 at the Protea Hotel, situated just outside the Kruger Gate of the Kruger National Park, this unique coin pays tribute to these highly endangered African mammals.
The mintmark Natura 1oz coin forms part of the Natura Launch Set. This limited edition set also contains two dog tags, one sterling silver, the other, 24 carat gold. Shaped like a xylophone, the set follows the musical theme of the 2011 Mbira Natura Launch set. Source: SA Mint.
