DESCRIPTION:
HISTORICAL EVENTS AT THE TIME THE
1964 SA REPUBLIC COINAGE WAS IN USE
IN THE YEARS 1956 TO 1958 THE DECIMALISATION COIN COMMISION INVESTIGATED THE DECIMALISATION OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN CURRENCY AND WAS ACCEPTED IN THE DECIMALISATION COIN ACT OF 1959
In terms of Government Notice No. 1355 of 28 August 1964, an Advisory Board on Coinage was established by the Minister of Finance to advise him on all practical aspects of the change in the coinage. This committee was instrumental in the process of introducing the new coins. It used the offices of the Treasury in the Union Buildings in Pretoria. source F MALAN
