 While the Rugby World Cup Tournament is only 24 years old, the trophy for which 20 teams from around the world play, "The Web Ellis Cup", is steeped in history.

In early 1987 the IRB Executive, and appointed leaders of the newly formed Rugby World Cup LTD, needed urgently to aquire a trophy for the new Tournament. A visit to the crown jewellers, Garrards, in Regent Street, London yielded what we know as the WEBB ELLIS CUP. The cup weighs 108 ounces and is made of sterling silver, gilded in gold. It is 38 centimeters tall with two scroll handles.
