PRICE OF PLATINUM AT TODAY'S RATE..?..

WHAT IS PLATINUM USED FOR?

Platinum’s diverse range of applications makes it one of the most versatile precious materials

It is widely used in jewellery, due to its purity, resistance to fading and ability to hold jewels securely.

Platinum and other platinum group metals (PGMs) enable catalytic converters to strip pollutants from car exhaust gases, and demand for PGMs from the car industry continues to grow as emissions regulators become ever more stringent.

Platinum has a great range of other uses in the chemical, electrical, medical, glass and petroleum industries. And with rising concern about environment and energy costs, there’s growing interest in platinum fuel cells as an alternative energy source. info source: Anglo America

PRICE OF PALLADIUM AT TODAY'S RATE..?..

 PALLADIUM USE

Anglo American Platinum Limited said the rally in Palladium isn't a bubble and could have further to run as China rushes to curb vehicle emissions. A supply deficit of about 1 million ounces will underpin prices until automakers start substituting palladium with platinum, Amplates Chief Executive Officer Chris Griffith said in an interview at the African Mining Indaba in Cape Town.
"That's a massive shortfall, and that is making prices rise," said Griffith. "It's not a bubble and there is nothing
strange that is happening."

ARE NOW AN EXCITING ADDITION TO INVESTMENT POTENTIAL WITHIN PRECIOUS METAL PORTFOLIOS

With respect to the other precious metals, platinum presents a value proposition for seasoned investors and beginning investors looking to shore up their portfolios with commodities. On the charts, platinum looks healthy, technically speaking, could be poised for some near-term upside.

The World Platinum Investment Council (WPIC) has announced the publication of its latest Platinum Quarterly.

Paul Wilson, CEO of WPIC comments: “Today’s report shows significant investment demand growth – an indication that platinum demand growth potential is finally outweighing long standing negative sentiment.

“The market may have previously underestimated the significant positive impact on platinum demand likely as more platinum is used in emissions control in gasoline cars and the prospect of more clean new diesels on the road.”

“The opportunity for the global platinum market to grow remains undiminished. I have been personally encouraged by the number of leading global players keen to partner with us to deliver further platinum investment growth, particularly in the US and China.”

“It is encouraging to see investment demand for platinum growing rapidly in 2019, and we expect this trend to continue.

"We believe our ongoing efforts in product development through global partnerships, plus platinum’s discount to gold will support continued, solid retail investment in bars and coins.

“The market may have previously underestimated the significant positive impact on platinum demand likely as more platinum is used in emissions control in gasoline cars and the prospect of more clean new diesels on the road.”

Forecast 2019 refined production from South Africa, is higher than previously forecast, mainly due to some one-off releases from work-in-progress inventory.

Three factors in 2019 strengthen platinum’s investment case: possible ongoing disruption of South African mining output could reduce supply; recovering Western Europe diesel market share may increase automotive demand; also, the significant increase in the palladium price makes future demand growth for platinum as a replacement for palladium in gasoline cars more likely.”

2018

Total platinum supply fell marginally in 2018 to 8,010 koz owing to lower mining supply, as recycled platinum increased modestly.

Platinum demand contracted by 5% to 7,365 koz, which resulted in a surplus of 645 koz.

Low levels of demand were due to declines in jewellery, automotive and investment demand that outweighed improved industrial demand.

Industrial demand was the only segment to see growth in Q4, 2018, which was up 7% year-on-year to 460 koz owing primarily to a recovery in petroleum requirements.
