INFO:

The African Banking Corporation (1890 - 1920), absorbed the Western Province Bank, (1891) the Kaffrarian Colonial Bank (1891) and the Worcester Colonial Bank (1892). The African Banking Corporation was finally taken over by the Standard Bank in 1920.

An Imperial Bank established in June 1890 and commenced operations at the Cape in June 1891. The bank operated branches in Natal (1892), the Transvaal (1891) and the Orange Free State in (1900). Many branches were opened in various towns throughout the "Provinces", but it seems that notes were issued from the following towns: Bloemfontein, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria.
