The realistic sugar maple leaf is incuse-struck into the surface of the coin. The reverse features the words “CANADA” and “FINE GOLD 2 OZ OR PUR” as well as the purity of “99999”

• Meaning of incuse-struck: The word "incuse" comes from the Latin word incūsus, which means "to indent or hollow out by hammering". A coin has been stamped or punched to create a concave impression, or intaglio, on one side. This is different from the standard raised relief design used on most coins.
