ISSUE LIMITS

The gold Maundy coins as well as the nine circulating coins of

the realm in gold are exclusive to the Golden Jubilee Gold Proof

Set and are therefore subject to a strict issue limit of 2002. A further 3,500

of the Golden Jubilee Gold Proof Crown have, however, been made available as individual pieces.

Description:

FIVE POUNDS

In harmony with the crown struck for the Queen's Coronation in 1953, the obverse of

the Golden Jubilee Crown features a magnificent equestrian portrait, its surrounding

AMOR POPULI PRAESIDIUM REG translating as 'the love of people in the Queen's 

protection'. A superb profile portrait of the Queen in crown and robes graces the reverse. Both designs are the work of Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS, FSNAD.

TWO POUND

Symbolic of the advance of technology from the Iron Age to the Internet. Designed by Bruce Rushin

ONE POUND

The Arms of England, described in the Royal Proclamation as 'three lions passant quardant, being that quartering of Our Royal Arms known heraldically as England.

Modelled by Norman Sillman from a drawing by the College of Arms

FIFTY PENCE

The reverse has the seated figure of Britannia. The designer is Christopher Ironside.

TWENTY PENCE

The reverse shows the Badge of England, the 

Tudor Rose, in stylised form and royally crowned, designed

by William Gardener.

TEN PENCE

On the reverse is part of the Crest of England, a Lion passant

guardant royally crowned, designed by Christopher Ironside.

FIVE PENCE

The Badge of Scotland, and a thistle royally crowned is depicted

on the reverse of the coin.

TWO PENCE

The Badge of the Prince of Wales,

comprising three ostrich feathers enfiling a coronet of 

crosses pattee and fleurs-de-lys with the motto ICH DIEN (I serve),

again the designer is Christopher Ironside.

ONE PENNY

A portcullis with chains royally crowned, being an adaptation of the

Badge of King Henry VII designed by Christopher Ironside.

Like all the Maundy coins issued throughout the Queen's reign, the four gold

Maundy coins carry the Royal portrait by Mary Gillick which graced the Queen's

first coins. Each reverse depicts the denomination value within a wreath.
