Description:

The advances made in coinage are clearly illustrated in this set. This Celtic coin originated in South West England. This 2000 year old coin is one of the earliest examples of a two sided coin, and comes from a time before regal coinage started, and depicts the simple aspects of everyday Celtic life. 

In contrast the Krugerrand is regarded as an excellent example of modern technical development. The skill and workmanship is retained, but the lettering on the coin, was improved by numerically controlled machinery to a standard that could never be achieved in the past. 

The obverse of this coin depicts the bust of President Paul Kruger, who was president of the ZAR ( the previous province of South Africa - now Gauteng ) when the Witwatersrand gold was discovered in 1886.
