Description:

1995
This was the first year of the Natura Series being launched which featured the rhino. In that year they did not include a denomination on the coin
2009
A new theme "Safari Through Africa" of the Natura Series was introduced in  2009. This quarter ounce coin features the White Rhinoceros (Ceretotherium simum) to celebrate the successful "Save the Rhino" project which saved these highly endangered species from certain extinction.
2010
The common obverse of the 2010 Natura coins, depict a mature Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) walking on a path with the inscription "2010 South Africa". The Black Rhino seems to be walking into its uncertain future as a result of the resurgence of sophisticated poaching methods for rhino horns.
