On the 15th May 2004 at the world trade centre in Zurich, South Africa was announced as the country to host the 2010 FIFA WORLD CUPTM, a first for the continent of Africa. 64 Matches were played in 10 stadiums in 9 South African cities from 8 Provinces, from 11th June - 11th July 2010. The South African Mint has captured this historical event by designing a series of legal tender commemorative coins in gold and silver. These coins depict scenes of football as well as truly South African national and symbolic elements.
